They’re Hungry, So Just Feed Your Followers Already!

3557546915 6263ef55f3 Theyre Hungry, So Just Feed Your Followers Already!Do you hear that?  That’s the sound of bellies rumbling.  Or maybe just mine.  We’re hungry…no, we’re STARVING for good content.  Original content.  Your unique perspective.

To those who spend hours reading everyone’s stuff.  Stop it!  Now it’s time to create your own.  I want to address the young entrepreneur who has many ideas, but hasn’t put any in play.  I can understand if you may lack focus on what you want to talk about.  So, what do you like to talk about? What is important to you?  Start there.  You may think there are plenty of people talking about that topic and you are right.  But, no one has your unique perspective.  No one can tell the story like YOU do.

Look at all the self proclaimed social media experts out there.  Half of them don’t even have a frickin’ blog.  Or if they do, they have like 6 readers.  Don’t be that guy.  Take the knowledge you have in your head and provide your followers with value.  Lead first by example.  Now is the time to get all that information stirring around in your head out to the world.

Hopefully, I can spark some ideas for you to start feeding your followers.  Here are 5 tips:

1.  Keep a Running List of Topics

Ideas for content will pop into your head for content all the time.  Write them down or keep them in a text document on your computer.  Get out to networking events and hear some new speakers.  Go to places where you get pitched something.  I love to study the person in front of the room and analyze what they do well and what was terrible.  It provides great discussion.  I went to an event last night and wrote in my notebook ideas for about 20 blog posts and videos.

2.  Find Your Format

Are you a talented writer?  If not maybe you should implement a video blog.  I admire Seth Godin.  He writes everyday posting very short, value packed articles.  I like reading short articles and usually keep my posts to under 500 words.  Look at what several people are doing that you respect and from there, implement a style that suits you well.

3.  Storytellers Win

He who tell the best stories shall crush his competition.  Understand this…there are no new success principals in the world.  So, why are there thousands of success books written every year?  It is because we all learn in different ways.  Share your unique experiences.  Embrace where you currently are at on your journey in life.  Think about all of the people who would die to just be where you are at in the process.  Tell your story.  I want to hear it.

4.  Be Consistent

Don’t be that person that updates once a month.  Try starting once a week.  Once you create a routine and your readers demand it, you can post more frequently.  Don’t try to post everyday if you know you cannot keep that commitment.  You will be setting yourself up for failure and will let down your readers.

5.  Pump It Out!

So many people talk about monetizing.  Dude, just shut up and pump out content.  There is so much abundance and money to go around.  Remember, you cannot lose anything you don’t have.  You MUST outwork the other guy.  Trust me, it will get you noticed.
