What was the first business book you ever read?

Guy Kawasaki wrote the first business book I ever read. I will correct myself in the video when I say “the first BOOK I ever read.” I hated reading growing up. The first actual book I ever “read,” was part of that Goosebumps series…I know you remember that! I could not put those suckers down. Guy’s book was the first “real” book with applicable business knowledge and probably the first book I CHOSE to read since my youth. I want to know the first business book YOU ever read and about your first entrepreneurial endeavor. Please tell me in the comment box below…

Hi Bradley,

I cant remember the 'first' book I read. I'm an old guy you know!
However, there are three you should consider adding to your list.

Way of the Peaceful Warrior – Dan Millman

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

Self-Esteem & Peak Performance – Jack Canfield (Audio CD)

All three have had an impact on my thinking. The first two I mention are philosophical in nature and will stretch the mind and spirit. The Canfield audio CD is 'very' empowering and your young readers would all benefit greatly from Jack's 'rubber hits the road' teachings.

Thanks for the post. I have heard so much about the classic Alchemist. That is next after I tackle this huge stack I already started. The Peaceful Warrior was a great movie. I have watched it maybe 10 times. Thanks for the great insight!

Dream Giver by Bruce Wilksonson. Anyone that owns a business will definitely relate to it. Whenever you do something different thats not like what everybody else is doing and you step out of your comfort zone you shake some people trees and they get uncomfortable. When you step out of your comfort zone and keep going and do what you are passionate about good things happen.
It goes through the stages of what all winners go through and does it in a story format for all to relate to. simple short read.

Rich Dad poor Dad. I know ... cliche. Still a great foundation to becoming an entrepreneur.

The reason I believe Rich Dad Poor Dad works so well for young entrepreneurs, is the way the story is told. The concepts of success and wealth building are made so simple and readers can relate to the situations in the circumstances in the book. It plants a seed (that gateway drug...I mean BOOK) to where the readers want to explore more about creating abundance and wealth in their life. Thanks for sharing. First book was a Hardy Boy's classic at the ripe age of 10 or so... riveting. I cheated my way through high school and college so I didn't read the assigned books so my first "real" book I read for my business was The E Myth by Michael Gerber. It was 7 years ago when I was 22 years old and I've been reading several every month since.

Hardy Boys!!! haha I remember them. I think I had like a set of those books. You show traits of many entrepreneurs Spencer. I see a common trend that we tune out in school because of a lack of interest or not being challenged enough. E-Myth was a great book. I actually wish I read it earlier on in my entrepreneurial career. Thanks for the great comment. What has been the most powerful book in your life Spencer?

most powerful book?... good question. Probably How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It's a great foundation for anything in business as relationships are the core to success.
